We have set out to create a facility that exemplifies what we ourselves would want for our own best friends and yes, we all own dogs. Your pet will have a fun safe place to play during the day and a secure night time environment. Our staff will go to any lengths to make our guest's stay a true delight. PROTOCOL Must be current on vaccinations, including DHLPP, Bordetella (Must booster every 6 months) and Rabies Vaccines. When is a Dog at Risk? There are several factors in a dog’s lifestyle that significantly increase the risk that he or she will be exposed to kennel cough. A dog can be exposed in any environment where dogs frequent. This includes grooming facilities, training classes, pet stores, dog shows, dog parks etc… Dogs at animal shelters or staying in boarding facilities are in a higher risk environment for being exposed. Dogs that visit these higher risk environments should be vaccinated in order to be better protected from infection. Why Do We Require the Vaccine Every 6 Months? The Downtown Dog environment means that your dog will be interacting with many different dogs. We require all of our clients to get a Bordetella vaccination every six months as it is an important step in protecting the health of all of the dogs at The Downtown Dog. Because canine cough can be contracted from any interaction with another affected dog – at a dog park, in the vet’s waiting room or anywhere dogs come into contact – and because the incubation period is 10 to 14 days from exposure, we try to take every precaution to reduce the chances of spreading the illness, much like people do by getting the flu shot. We care about the health and happiness of all of our clients and, therefore, require the Bordetella vaccination every six months in order to give them the best possible protection from canine cough.
